Health Update/News:

  • We were happy to report that so far we were able to make it out of the summer with only a small percentage of our Chewie’s pups being affected by the upper respiratory that hit Northern MA and Southern NH this August. It was a community effort! Thanks to the close relationship with the local veterinarians, they warned us when they started seeing cases from other dog facilities and dog parks, to our rigorous cleaning protocol, and to all the owners being responsible by not bringing their pets when ill, or alerting us even when they picked it up elsewhere.  Despite our best efforts though, there is always risk, because sometimes dogs can be contagious even when not showing symptoms. It is important for owners to realize when they visit dog facilities, dog parks, or heavily populated trails that there will always be a risk. During times of an known illness, we ask owners not to come to Chewie’s if they go elsewhere, because of cross contamination risk. We do have a great hand out that was made:  https://www.facebook.com/notes/chewies-playland/diving-into-kennel-cough/1353307111479532/
  • Please remember, it is important not to bring your pet to daycare, boarding, grooming or training if they are not feeling well. If your pet is experiencing out of the ordinary coughing, sneezing, vomiting and/or diarrhea you need to keep them at home. We do know that sometimes we maybe the first ones to notice these symptoms. If we do, for everyones health and wellbeing, they will be separated from the group for the day, and you will be notified to see if you can pick them up.  If you cannot pick them up, we will keep them separated, they will still be walked, and receive activities until you arrive. There will be an isolation cleaning charge added for the day between $5 and $20 dollars depending on the illness/symptoms.  It is also important for you to do your job as pet owner and avoid dog parks, pet stores, heavily populated trails if your pet is sick, so you do not put other dogs at risk.

Thank you everyone for being part of the Chewie’s Family, we appreciate all of you!
